Tommy Walsh's Eco House
ADDING THE ROOF

Things are really taking shape. The the timber frame roof is finally constructed and at the rear of the house the intricate and highly skilled zinc work can begin.

The zinc roof was chosen because it’s aesthetically pleasing and complements contemporary design of the house.

In The end the zinc work was successfully completed on time and on budget.

However the front section of the roof is another story. The slate was ordered weeks ago but the delivery was delayed meaning the schedule began to slip. To make matters worse torrential rain caused even more delays and these setbacks became problematic for both the build and the TV production schedule.

Bad weather can seriously hamper any broadcast TV or corporate TV production. Producers factor in to the schedule what is known as ‘Weather Cover’. Wherever possible Weather Cover allows producers and directors to switch the filming schedule from shooting at an exterior location to an interior location which prevents a hold up in the production schedule.

In the case of Tommy's Eco House, Free Spirit the budget determined a limited number available of filming days and delays in the build meant more pressure on the production team to film the necessary material. Bad weather can be a TV producer’s nightmare, however with a little creative thinking the producers at Free Spirit managed to get all the filming done on time and on budget.

Tommy Walsh's Eco House is a 10 part series produced by Free Spirit and commissioned by Discovery Real Time Channel 271 (Sky channel 240). Due to popular demand, the series is regularly repeated.
